Raquel Newton

Raquel Newton teaches at ThrasherMrs. Newton has been teaching since 2003. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from Texas A&M University in 1991, entered the UTC/ HCDE Alternative Education Certification program in 2003, and earned her M.Ed. in Elementary Education in 2009. She is certified in Pre-K through 4th grades.

She started teaching at East Lake Elementary in 2003, transferring to Thrasher in 2006, starting off in 2nd grade. In 2009-2010, she was in the 11th cohort of PEF’s Leadership Fellows, and in 2012-13 she was in the first cohort of PEF STEM Fellows. During the 2011-2012 school year, she served as an HCDE math coach at East Lake and Alpine Crest schools.

Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Newton worked for Speedo and American Airlines. She is married to attorney Mike Newton and has two daughters who are Thrasher alumni- Merrit and Morgen Newton. They live in Chattanooga.
