Safety

We talked with kids at an assembly about getting to and from school safely. We gave each child two things to remember:

·         Walkers – when you come to a crosswalk,

o   Stop

o   Look both ways

·         Bus riders –

o   Stay in your seat

o   Listen to your driver

·         So that car riders wouldn’t feel left out, we said –

o   Buckle up

o   Thank your driver

Before fall break, we were hearing reports of children being careless at crosswalks and on the bus. On Tuesday morning, Office Siler will join us at 8:10. We will keep all kids in the cafeteria Tuesday morning (instead of going straight to class) for a brief assembly. Officer Siler will reiterate these safety points. Please go over them with your children as well.

The police are also increasing their monitoring of the school zones due to the number of requests they have received. They are looking to curb speeding, cell phone use, and any unsafe practice in school zones.

Yearbooks

The yearbook is also on sale for the year. We use a wonderful company called TreeRing and it allows you to create your own pages and upload your own pictures. The yearbook is 10% off if you order by October 31st. The link is below and our school code is: 101489169935961

Spanish Club

Vanessa Stafford is starting the Spanish Club again on Wednesdays. The first class will be this Wednesday in room 306 from 3:00pm to 3:45pm. Mrs. Stafford will walk with students to the front door of the school for pickup. She will also walk children to aftercare if specified in the registration form.

Costumes on October 31

This is an old Thrasher tradition. With all the pressure for schools to do well and hit the academics hard, Thrasher knows that it is essential to have a little fun.

On October 31, which is a Wednesday this year, kids and teachers can wear costumes to school. We will have our annual costume parade at 1:00 and classroom celebrations at 1:30.

Here are the rules:

·            Masks can be put on for the parade, but they will not be worn during the school day.

·            Remember that the child will be participating in a regular school day for the first five hours – including school work, using the restroom, and going to lunch.

·            Any part of the costume that might be taken off or put on during the school day should be easily managed by the child.

·            Face paint is OK.

·            No guns (in this day and age)

·            Costumes at a Kindergarten-through-fifth grade school should be on the side of child-like and appropriate. If you have questions about a certain costume, please check before sending your child to school in it.

Thank You

We collected and sent $1,672.02 in coins to the Austin Hatcher Foundation. AHF uses funds to reduce the impact of childhood cancer on families. Thank you so much!
